Monologue Slam
By
Yahyaa Khan
The Inspiration
In June 2020, Yahyaa Khan discovered the World Monologue Games to pursue his passion for acting since many summer acting programmes were cancelled due to Covid. He used this opportunity to improve his skills and learn from successful actors worldwide. Khan also realised that monologues were not well-known in Pakistan, so he launched the TNS Monologue Slam after the World Monologue Games ended, with Yahyaa ranking 6th in Global Youth. The Head of School at TNS Beaconhouse DHA, Mr Iain Riley, supported the project by promoting it across Pakistan, resulting in an overwhelming response by 188 participants from 10 schools in 5 cities.
The Journey
The project process commenced with thorough planning and training, unveiling a remarkable journey. The talent exhibited by actors aged 4 to 18 left organisers in awe. This pioneering event hosted by TNS... Beaconhouse introduced a unique learning experience as students gained insights from each other's performances, guided by a seasoned drama coach. The main event, live streamed and graced by Mr Pete Maliki, founder of World Monologue Games, featured a distinguished panel of judges, including Ali Ahmad Khan, Nighat Chaudhry, Ahsan Rahim, and Faisal Qureshi from the film and media industry. These experts provided invaluable feedback to the top 10 participants. Notably, this one-of-a-kind event during the challenging times of COVID-19 received acclaim for its innovation and significance.
Key Learnings
Besides being an exciting and memorable event during these trying times, TNS Monologue Slam gave confidence and encouragement to the young and upcoming acting talent of Pakistan is ready to embark on a journey of international stature. More such opportunities and collaborations are to be created for students in the field of performing arts.
The Impact
