The Inspiration
The prime purpose of this project is to safeguard the students against life-threatening situations. In the recent past, Karachi, Pakistan has experienced a significant rise in kidnapping and harassment cases. There is currently no device to detect or help tackle the issue of human trafficking in the country. A previous effort, UWatch by Ufone, was launched a few years ago but faced challenges, potentially due to affordability issues.
The Journey
The project's primary objective is to ensure the safety of students in potentially life-threatening situations. The initial milestone was accomplished through the organization of self-defense classes, which... effectively engaged students. An interactive game was developed to raise awareness and encourage children to prioritize their security. Furthermore, an informative session was conducted for parents, and a website was created with the guidance of a corporate solicitor to provide legal advice. To enhance safety measures, a mobile app was developed allowing the transmission of SOS alert messages to friends and family. Additionally, an inconspicuous device was designed and seamlessly integrated with the app, enabling the transmission of messages discreetly to avoid detection by potential assailants. The project benefitted from the valuable technical guidance provided by the IT and Physics faculty members, whose expertise played a vital role in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. Furthermore, the school administration provided financial support, enabling the procurement of necessary hardware modules essential for the development of the device. Effective collaboration between the students and the technical staff, coupled with their constructive feedback, played a crucial role in the creation of the device, ensuring its effectiveness and functionality.
Key Learnings
The project began by developing a mobile app with the capability to send SOS alert messages to up to five predetermined contacts. Expanding on this achievement, the subsequent objective focused on designing a safety pendant that could establish a seamless connection with the app. To accomplish this, the pendant's design incorporated a Bluetooth connection and an Arduino Nano chip. Activation of the safety pendant involved a single long press function, triggering the immediate transmission of an SOS alert message. These innovative features were implemented to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the pendant, enhancing the safety and security of its users.

Lastly, continuous refinement and improvement of the device and app through user feedback and technological advancements to ensure optimal performance and user experience. By pursuing these strategies, the Autodifesa project can contribute to creating a safer environment for children and help address the issue of insecurity and potential dangers they may face. "
