A SURVIVAL KIT

The Inspiration
Zainab developed a love for literature at a very early stage. She became an ardent fan of fiction which led her to write in the same genre. Her first story came at age 10, and her stint in poetry followed. This gave her an avenue to express... herself, and she could easily convey her thoughts to her friends and readers at large. Sure enough, only at 13, she published a book called "My Little Pen Scribbles" and launched it at the 60th CHILDREN'S LITERATURE FESTIVAL KARACHI. Since then, she has been volunteering at SIMS School Majeed Keerio, where she has inspired many students to explore their talents in literature. Zainab believes that writing is a powerful means of expression for people from all backgrounds and hopes to encourage more young people to share their thoughts and ideas with the world.
The Journey
Zainab shared her vision with teachers and heads to form a Literature Club and find Budding Talent. The school held auditions for a play written by Ms. Umama Burney, a literature club member on “individualism”. Miss Seema Mubeen, a playwright, was also invited to share tips for emerging talent. Next, she visited The Citizen Foundation School at Korangai and found many students interested in writing. They were offered to send their writing pieces which Zainab plans to publish as "DC LITERARY SCRAPBOOK". She aims to reach out to more students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and encourage them to write to raise their voices.
Key Learnings
By far, from this project, Zainab has learned: Making New Friends Club members became close during the project, and valuable relationships formed. Gaining New Knowledge One of the most essential takeaways from this project was new knowledge. Zainab realised that everyone has something to teach, as long as we’re open to learning. Developing a Sense of Accomplishment Working with peers gave her a sense of accomplishment. Reaching underprivileged communities was a highlight. Zainab has developed confidence that she might even consider being a mentor for young kids within her school and neighbourhood.
The Impact
“If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” – Toni Morrison Writing has the power to change lives. It impacts college and career choices and allows us to express ourselves. It's a way to escape and create the world we want. People believe what they read, so the young generation needs to share their ideas through blogs, school magazines, or published books.

Zainab plans to take her passion for writing and promoting literature to new levels and aspire to reach the wider community.
