Panel Discussion:
COVID-19
“Call for Innovation”

The Inspiration
The idea for the project was conceived after schools were shut down globally due to the pandemic. Ahmad, Imaan & Hamza, being the senior most students of their campus, took it upon themselves to reach out to their juniors and classmates to provide emotional support during the lockdown. They noticed that students were seeking answers and were confused about the ongoing pandemic. The team brainstormed on how to gather everyone on a single platform to converge ideas and find solutions to cope with the complications of COVID-19.
The Journey
The team organised an online panel discussion to highlight the effects of the pandemic on the education system and students' mental health, as well as to discuss coping strategies. They assembled a team of panellists and technical personnel to ensure clear communication of the message and solutions to a broad audience. The team conducted research by consulting literature, interviewing students, and discussing the pandemic and lockdown's repercussions. On the day of the panel discussion, the IT team provided online web links and backup links for a livestream on Facebook, with online invitation links provided to viewers on various social media platforms.
Key Learnings
The key learning from the project was that despite facing challenges such as internet disruptions, concerns about audience comprehension, and the absence of physical assistance from teachers, the group was able to successfully hold an online panel discussion. This highlights the importance of perseverance and adaptability in the face of obstacles. The major takeaway for the viewers was the sense of comfort that they achieved and a notion that they are not alone in these unprecedented times.
The Impact
The online panel discussion received an overwhelmingly positive response from viewers, including parents, alumni, and students from both Pakistan and abroad. The audience appreciated the discussion of current issues and contributed their own thoughts as solutions to student problems. The discussion received over five thousand views and positive feedback, making it a remarkable experience for the organisers. This success has inspired the group to continue organising similar events in the future.
Way Forward
Moving forward, the team aims to continue addressing the effects of pandemic on the education system and students' mental health. They plan to organise more panel discussions, invite experts and stakeholders to provide insights and solutions. To enhance the impact, the team will conduct further research by analysing literature, conducting interviews, and gathering data on the repercussions of pandemic and lockdown. They will leverage social media platforms to reach a wider audience, sharing online web links and backup links for live streams on Facebook. By adopting a proactive and inclusive approach, the team aims to raise awareness, offer support, and advocate for effective coping strategies to mitigate the challenges faced by students and the education system during these unprecedented times.
