Ansaar

The Inspiration
The previous year was unprecedented in many ways. Forced to stay at home due to Covid 19, the students from BCP Margalla Campus embarked on a journey to address the many issues prevalent in society. The group felt that the pandemic has increased the distress and miseries of many segments of the local community. Rising drug addiction among millennials and lack of transgender rights awareness served as core reasons behind their first 2 projects. The pandemic served as a catalyst and ‘Ansaar was formed to create a positive impact in the community and to contribute positively for a better tomorrow.
The Journey
Ansaar's first project involved refining ideas, building a team, and collaborating with institutions. They advocated through a social media campaign on Instagram. Moreover, they visited the Anti-Narcotics Force Rehab Centre for insights and organised an Anti-drug Awareness session recognized by the Islamabad District Administration and Ministry of Health. Their second project focused on transgender rights. The group visited transgenders of Bari imam where Nadeem Kashish elaborated on the problems faced by the transgender community regarding the health sector. The group presented these concerns to the Deputy Commissioner, who promised mobile vaccination services. Ansaar's determination to create positive change and advocate for marginalised communities was evident throughout their projects.
Key Learnings
The project taught the group the importance of ensuring basic human rights for all individuals, regardless of their gender. They learned that neglecting the rights of such humans should not be permitted in a society that is based upon the harmony and unity of all human beings. Moreover, activism about the underprivileged communities and the unresolved issues can only help solve them or at least bring them to light. If the youth harnesses this quality of advocacy into them, our society will move in the right direction where everyone is concerned about each other’s welfare and progress.
The Impact
The group's focus on targeting school students aged 12-19 had a significant impact, particularly in their anti-drug seminar. Their efforts to address the issues of transgender individuals and present them to higher authorities gave them a voice and the chance to be uplifted. The Ministry of Human Rights incorporating these concerns into their plans provides hope for the community. Offering mobile vaccination to transgender individuals during times of neglect instils hope and reminds them that they deserve equal treatment. The project aimed to change society's perception of transgender individuals, breaking stereotypes and advocating for their rights as equal human beings.
Way Forward
In moving forward, the project team will build upon their achievements by implementing a comprehensive strategy. They will continue organising online panel discussions, engaging experts and stakeholders to address the... pandemic's impact on education and students' mental health. To further their understanding, the team will conduct thorough research, including literature reviews and interviews, to gather insights and data on the repercussions of the pandemic and lockdown. Leveraging social media platforms, they will expand their reach by sharing livestream links and invitations to engage a wider audience. By adopting an inclusive and proactive approach, the team aims to raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for effective coping strategies, ensuring the well-being and resilience of students and the education system.
